My new release set in the fashion world is out in the wild and is a whopper at 140,000 words. Here is a snippet.
They strolled out of the water and up the steep bank of pebbles. Halfway up, Terri slipped on the stones. Jake returned to her level and pulled her up, he tugged to help her, but she wouldn’t move.
“What’s the matter?” Jake asked.
His fingers were twined with hers, their arms stretched between them.
“Did you see that flash?” she asked.
Her line of sight was aimed further down the beach.
“There is no one there. I can’t see another soul,” Jake said, pulling on her arm, but she wasn’t moving.
“Look, over there, I saw it again.”
Jake let go of Terri’s hand. She immediately sat down on the pebbles with her arms wrapped around her knees. Her chin rested in the dip between her legs. Jake strode down the beach to where Terri pointed and returned a few minutes later carrying a tray.
“It was the sun glinting off the disposable BBQ tray,” Jake said.
He showed her the evidence once he’d sat next to her on the beach. He waited for her to understand what she saw while he rolled down his trousers. They’d left their shoes at the top of the beach on the flat. He grabbed a few stones and threw them into the sea while Terri righted her mind.
“I’m sorry,” she said, sniffing back her tears.
“Never apologise to me for how you feel,” he said, gripping her hand. “We managed to get married without anyone intruding. It’s only natural that you’re feeling jumpy.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder, threading her arm through the crook of his elbow to capture his hand.
“It’s not looking good for Saturday if this is how I react to a tin tray,” she said.
“On Saturday, you’ll pretend that you are acting a role. You’ll be the most outrageous you’ve ever been, flaunting my ring on your finger. Karl Spencer’s jewels will be dripping from your neck and ears, and I will be at your side. We’re going to show the world, that we dictate what they know.”
“I love you, Jake Speers,” she said.
“And I love you. Now let’s get to the restaurant. I’ve hired the whole of the roof terrace. We can be as frisky as we like up there.”
Will Terri and Jake be able to keep their secret until they’re ready to reveal all? Find out in Fashion.
